Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney admits he wants to become Derby County manager full-time.

Rooney is temporarily in charge of the team where he also plays, due to the sacking of ex-boss Philip Cocu.

The ex-England striker is working with Liam Rosenior, Shay Given and former Derby youth coach Justin Walker.

While he is not in the job permanently, he does want to be considered among the others who would likely vie for the position.

"I am ambitious and I want to go into management. I have been quite open about that," said Rooney to reporters.

"I don't know how long this situation [at Derby] is going to last but I wouldn't be an ambitious person if I said I didn't want the job."
