Ralph Hasenhuttl admits Southampton made tough work of Sunday's win over Aston Villa.
Saints were up 4-0 but had to stave off a late comeback from Villa, who made it 4-3 deep into injury time.
Asked if he was delighted with his side's performance, Hasenhuttl said: "The first 60 minutes, yes. The final 30 minutes not 100 per cent, because we stopped doing what we can do best, also in possession and I think it was necessary (to keep going) against a very strong side today.
"We shouldn't stop doing what we do best, I think this is the message for the game against a very strong side, taking three points with Aston Villa never giving up, I must say. It was tough work."
