Kota Kinabalu: Upko President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic) says the announcement by the Prime Minister that the Federal Government is considering to issue temporary work permits to illegal immigrants is “a smack in the face of every Sabah leader in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) State and Federal governments”.

He said during the recent State election, the illegal immigrant issue was fully played up by leaders from PN, Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to stoke anger and distrust towards the then Warisan-led state government.

“It is no surprise to see in the past few days statements from Sabah leaders from the ruling coalition such as Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili and Arthur Kurup trying to make sense of the announcement by the Prime Minister,” he said.
