Former Arsenal coach Freddie Ljungberg admits the tension the players were under during former manager Unai Emery's final weeks under the club brought them to tears.

He guided the Gunners to a 3-1 win over West Ham during his stint as caretaker manager last December to finally make a breakthrough and end their slump.

Their relief led to tears when they finally got a win under their belts and started afresh before the appointment of Arteta later that month.

Ljungberg told The Telegraph: “When we won at West Ham and the happiness, I had some players with tears in their eyes on my shoulder after the game.

“That's the pressure they were under and the feelings they had. Even me, I was surprised that's how much they were suffering."
