Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu was key to blocking Pedri from leaving for Bayern Munich over the summer.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio has revealed Bayern made an attempt for Pedri at the end of last season.
Bayern directors spoke to Bartomeu after dumping Barca out of the Champions League with their infamous 8-2 triumph.
Over a video conference call, Bayern directors told Bartomeu: "Yes, we are satisfied with the result, but we would like to sign your player (Pedri)."
However, Bartomeu gave the request short shrift, replying: "He comes to prepare for the season with us..."
