Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has broken his silence over his ban and fine by the FA for leaping into the stands to confront a fan last season.

Dier was suspended for four matches and slapped with a £40,000 fine by a disciplinary hearing in July after he went into the stands to support his brother Patrick after a fan became abusive as Spurs lost to Norwich in an FA Cup penalty shoot-out in March.

He said: “It was harsh. I have very strong views not just on the ban itself but the process that took place to get to that.

“If you were to compare the ban and the fine to other things, I think you'd find some strange outcomes.

“There is a time when I will talk about it when I'm retired or not playing in England any more."
