PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 919 Covid-19 cases and one death in the past 24 hours. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 996 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 32,069. In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 919 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 43,791.

Meanwhile, the one death brings the toll to 303. The single death reported today was of a non-Malaysian man, aged 66, from Sabah. Noor Hisham said there were 11,419 active cases in the country, 92 of whom were being treated in the ICU with 35 needing respiratory assistance. Three out of the 919 cases reported today were imported cases, one each from Indonesia, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. Sabah again recorded the highest number of cases with 319 infections, or 34.7% of total cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 240 cases and Selangor with 174 cases. Noor Hisham said the Klang Valley had 224 cases, or 24.4% of the total number. Most cases from Negeri Sembilan and Selangor were from existing clusters.

Meanwhile, the bulk of the cases in Sabah were from close-contact screenings. Noor Hisham also said 13, or 1.4%, of total cases were from prison clusters or temporary detention centres, 12 of which were from the Seberang Perai prison cluster and one from the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre cluster. On Covid-19 cases from other states and federal territories, Noor Hisham said Penang recorded 63 cases, Kuala Lumpur (47), Labuan (35), Perak (9), Sarawak (8), Melaka (8), Johor (8), Kedah (3), Kelantan (2) and Putrajaya (1). It was detected in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The cluster’s three index cases were screened during workplace screenings on Nov 9 and Nov 10. As at Nov 12, a total of 128 people have been screened with 30 testing positive, 97 negative and one waiting for their result. On the existing clusters, Noor Hisham said those with a large number of new infections include the Cergas cluster affecting Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan with 221 new cases. There are now 724 positive cases from the cluster. Meanwhile, the Kaya cluster affecting Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Melaka and Johor recorded 51 new cases pushing its total number of cases to 754. The Damanlela construction site cluster involving Kuala Lumpur and Selangor recorded 30 new cases, and the Bayan cluster involving Penang, Kedah and Perak has 21. Meanwhile, the Jaya cluster involving Negeri Sembilan and Selangor reported 20 new cases in the last 24 hours.
