SHAH ALAM, Dec 9 — Selangor has recorded a drug abuse rate of 0.21 per cent, which is the lowest in the country, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Taking into consideration the state population density is at 6.3 million, Amirudin said the rate shows a positive improvement.

“However, we have not won yet and it requires a continuous effort.

“We hope various programmes by the National Anti-Drug Agency and the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam) can combat this problem,” he said after officiating the anti-drug mural alley and Selangor Pemadam office at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here yesterday.

At the same time, Amirudin admitted that it is difficult for the Selangor government to eradicate drug abuse due to the state’s geographical position, which attracts many people into the state.

“Selangor is close to the national capital, which makes it the choice (destination) for the people and this also contributes to (the rise of) criminal activities including drugs,” he added.
