Real Madrid have moved to the head of the queue to sign David Alaba in the summer.
The Bayern Munich defender is out of contract at the end of the season and is not renewing.
Alaba will leave Bavaria on a free next summer and can begin negotiating with foreign teams next month.
And according to Marca, Real have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign him.
Los Blancos are now favourites to secure the 28-year-old, and believe he would add much needed quality to the squad.
Alaba could fill in at centre-back, and even play at left-back or defensive midfield.
Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have also been linked to the player at various points in the past few months.
