Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl was pleased with Shane Long's performance for their 0-0 draw with Fulham.
The Republic of Ireland international made his first league start for the St Mary's outfit since July, during a 0-0 draw against the Cottagers in west London.
Assessing the striker's display, the Saints boss said: “It was important that we give the experience a chance and Longy showed that he is, especially in such games, important for us.
“When we are playing more long balls, we need to have a target player in front where he holds the ball up and I think he did a good job.
“He made a goal that was offside but had a few good assists. For that first game in a long time, I think he did a good job."
