Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits Liverpool's victory at Crystal Palace was proof how difficult the title race is this season.

Jurgen Klopp's men laid down a marker on Saturday by thrashing Crystal Palace 7-0 at Selhurst Park.

The emphatic result took Liverpool six points clear at the top of the table, coming on the back of the 2-1 victory over closest challengers Tottenham Hotspur. City - last season's runners-up - responded with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

Guardiola said, "We are (a long way) away. Look at the table."

Reminded that Liverpool had played a game more, the Spaniard replied: "OK, but it's a lot of points. They still have the momentum in terms of goals.

"They scored seven goals at Crystal Palace away and I saw against Tottenham how well they played.

"There's no doubts about how good Liverpool are but I said to the guys to forget about it, to think about it in high, high things."
