PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,075 Covid-19 cases and 11 deaths in the past 24 hours. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 948 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 57,917. In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 1,075 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 69,095.

Meanwhile, the 11 deaths bring the toll to 376. Selangor recorded the highest number of cases today with 459, followed by Sabah (310) and Johor (78). Noor Hisham said most of the cases in Selangor were from existing clusters, including the newly-identified Monsoon cluster. Meanwhile, the majority of cases in Sabah and Johor came from existing clusters and close contact tracing in both states. Of today’s cases, 48 came from prison clusters, namely the Jalan Harapan cluster in Selangor with 41 infections. Other prison clusters that recorded new infections were the Tembok cluster in Kedah (3), Matambai cluster in Sabah (3) and the Bakti cluster in Negeri Sembilan (1). Other states and federal territories with new cases reported today were Negeri Sembilan (52), Kuala Lumpur (49), Penang (43), Kedah (32), Perak (26), Labuan (9), Kelantan (9), Pahang (4), Melaka (2), Sarawak (1) and Terengganu (1).

On the 11 deaths, Noor Hisham said they were all Malaysians from various states, aged between 50 and 81. All except one patient from Kuala Lumpur had a history of chronic illnesses. There are currently 10,802 active cases with 116 patients receiving intensive care, of which 46 require respiratory assistance. Putrajaya and Perlis did not record any new cases today. Out of the 1,075 cases today, only three were imported cases. Four new Covid-19 clusters have been detected over the past 24 hours, three in Sabah and one in Selangor. In a statement today, health-director general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the clusters are known as the Monsoon cluster in Selangor and the Jalan Kilang, Perdana Enam and Jalan Kubota clusters in Sabah. He said the index case of the Monsoon cluster in the Petaling district of Selangor was detected on Nov 29 after the patient exhibited symptoms. A total of 106 people have been screened, with 19 testing positive. The Jalan Kilang cluster in Lahad Datu, Sabah, was detected after a factory worker tested positive on Nov 15. A total of 104 people have been screened, with 24 testing positive. Meanwhile, the index case in the Perdana Enam cluster in Lahad Datu, Sabah, was detected after an individual tested positive on Nov 22. A total of 213 people have been screened, with 25 testing positive. The Jalan Kubota cluster in Tawau, Sabah, was detected on Nov 25 after the patient exhibited symptoms. A total of 72 people have been screened, with 14 testing positive. Overall, a total of 373 clusters have been detected in the country. Currently, there are 184 active clusters, with 43 of them recording new cases today. The Usaha cluster in Petaling and Klang, Selangor, recorded a high of 84 new cases today, followed by the Kaya cluster (74 cases) and Hentian cluster (60 cases). The Kaya cluster is active in Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Melaka and Johor, while the Hentian cluster is active in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Negeri Sembilan.
