West Brom have dumped several of their backroom team.

The Daily Mail says the club has said seven people were made redundant, but ex-staff say they believe it was nine.

"When we got promoted on the Wednesday (in July), we were elated," said a former staff member.

"Charlie Austin and Jake Livermore were saying everyone's jobs are safe. And we thought we were safe; it was going to be fantastic. Then on Monday, bang!

"I would have understood it if we had not got promoted.

"People offered to take pay cuts or work part-time. We had just got promoted and they made people redundant."

"When we were promoted we had seen it on TV," said another staff member. "We had seen the chief executive and staff on the pitch. We were thinking, 'our jobs are safe'.

"Jake Livermore and Charlie Austin were saying, 'brilliant news, we have saved people's jobs'. But little did they know they hadn't."

Clubs, including West Brom, have struggled financially during the coronavirus pandemic when fans have been banned from most grounds and retail, sponsorship and hospitality income has been drastically reduced.
