Gremio midfielder Diego Rosa is on his way to Manchester City in January.

The Manchester Evening News says City have been tracking the 18-year-old for some time and have moved to secure a deal that sees them pay an initial fee of around £5.2m with the potential for it to rise all the way to £23m should he make the first team. While the player is expected to go out on loan after completing his move - Lommel, the Belgian club that are the latest addition to the City Football Group, are a realistic option - the opportunity is there to earn a path to first team football.

Rosa becomes the second player signed this year from the young Brazil side that won the Under-17s World Cup last year. Yan Couto's performances in that tournament clinched his move to City, with the exciting right-back now on loan at City sister club Girona in Spain.

It is also not the first deal that the club have agreed ahead of January; 18-year-old Partizan winger Filip Stevanovic has secured a move to Manchester despite being heavily linked with United in the summer.
