Trawler seized over licence violations off Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: The Marine Police Force (MPF) here, Sunday, apprehended a trawler boat over license violations.

Lahad Datu Marine Commanding Officer, Superintendent Gan Ping Sin, in a statement said the boat was apprehended at about 9am off Sungai Meruap waters, Tambisan, following the Op Benteng Covid. Gan said the boat and its crew were apprehended with its equipment and 30kg fish, worth RM75,900, while out fishing.

“We will not compromise any offences including fishing near the shore or river which endanger the small fishermen as well as ecosystem and coral.

“We also advised the maritime community on the laws and rules that should be complied with while conducting fishing activities,” he said.
