Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta says Lionel Messi knows he can trust him.
Laporta is hoping to win a second spell as president at next month's election and has spoken of Messi and his poor relationship with Jose Maria Bartomeu and the former board.
He told ARA: "If Lionel Messi is like that, it's because the outgoing board blocked him, which is the worst thing you can do to a player. My relationship with Leo is based on trust and credibility.
"He always said, 'Everything you told me, you did'. But to make a proposal to him, I must have the authority to be president. So the proposition that I will make to him, he knows that I will carry it out. He is injured because he was deceived and held responsible for situations that did not suit him.
"Now Bartomeu and his board are gone, but he's still angry. We all want to see Leo smile. If he awaits the proposal of the new president, and I hope it will be me, he will smile again."
