S’kan workshop, ice cream factory 80pc destroyed in morning fire

SANDAKAN: Fire destroyed 80 per cent a vehicle workshop building and an ice cream factory at Jalan Sedco 9, Lot 82, Mangkalinau, Batu 3.

However, no injuries and casualties were reported during the incident on Wednesday morning.

District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Jimmy Lagung said Sabah Operation Movement Centre (PGO) under the State Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 8.51am via MERS 999.

“16 firefighters, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), a water tanker and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) were deployed to the scene about 3km away.

“The workshop and factory were 80pc destroyed but the operation successfully controlled the fire at 10.25am and that it ended at 12.01pm.

“The cause and estimated loss is still under investigation by the Sandakan Zone 6 Fire Investigation Division,” he said.
