SHAH ALAM, Dec 4 — The development of the state will be more meaningful if the persons with different abilities (OKU) community is empowered, says Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“The issues with the OKU is not just about welfare but it also comprises health, education, law, career opportunities and comfortable infrastructure facilities.

“A prosperous state with empowered OKU citizens is the main theme that forms the state government’s big agenda. To the people of Selangor, I wish you a Happy International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2020,” said Amirudin on Facebook yesterday.

The global event is celebrated on December 3 of every year and is recognised by the United Nations since 1992, while in Malaysia it started since 1994.

Through the 2021 Selangor Budget, the state government had allocated RM3.25 million for OKU programmes covering initiatives by Bantuan Khas Anak Istimewa Selangor (AnIS), Didik AnIS, Cikgu AnIS and Kelas AnIS.

Among the incentives offered are purchases of support equipment, special needs children recovery therapies, special needs children training courses and awareness seminars for the support group of special needs children’s parents.

At the same time, the state government will also be strengthening the role of the Selangor Action Council for the Disabled (MTOS).

The purpose of the council is to highlight the Agenda of Disability Mediation in

every state government programme at all levels towards achieving Selangor PwD-Friendly state.
