Hertha Berlin chief Michael Preetz says they hope to keep hold of Matteo Guendouzi.
The France U21 midfielder is impressing on-loan from Arsenal this season.
“The starting position is not the worst," said Preetz to BILD, “his contract with Arsenal will then only run for one year. There are only two options - either the British extend it or they sell him."
Guendouzi is loaned to Hertha until the summer, a purchase option is not part of the deal.
Preetz added: “At the moment we are just happy that he is with us. He helps us a lot and is a very exciting player. We won't see anything else until the summer."
