Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is in the market for a new striker in January.
Smith revealed Aston Villa will consider signing a new striker in January if injured frontman Wesley is not deemed ready for the second half of the season.
"We need to see where Wesley is in January to have in our mind whether we need to move in the market," said Smith. "We're very hopeful.
"He's working extremely hard with the rehab staff at the moment to work on his aerobic capacity. Once he does that we can get him into group training and we'll have a better idea of where he is then.
"He was always penned in to be out for a year. He is striking a ball now but it was a significant injury and we always felt it would be a 12-month injury."
