Liverpool were denied a late winner by VAR in their 1-1 draw with FC Midtjylland on Wednesday.
The Reds had already secured top spot in Group D prior to kick-off in Denmark.
But that didn't stop Jurgen Klopp naming Mohamed Salah and Fabinho in his starting line-up.
19-year-old midfielder Leighton Clarkson made his Champions League debut for the Reds.
It took just one minute for Liverpool to take the lead through Salah, who surpassed Steven Gerrard as the club's record scorer in the competition.
A poor back-pass from Midtjylland midfielder Erik Svitachenko was pounced on by the Egyptian, finding himself in a one-on-one against the home goalkeeper, Jesper Hansen before slotting home.
But Liverpool were poor in the second half and their lead was lost after 62 minutes.
Alexander Scholz converted from the spot for Midtjylland after Reds goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher clashed with Anders Dreyer.
Klopp's side though they had a winner with 90 minutes on the clock through Takumi Minamino, but VAR ruled he was offside.
