SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — Users in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya are guaranteed with clean water supply despite facing several raw water source pollution incidents, says the Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).

Its chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said the water concessionaire company would not release water supply to the consumers even when the pollution reading level detected is at 1 or 2 TON (threshold odour number).

“We would not compromise and if the water source is not safe, it is better to shut down the treatment plant than to pose risks to the users,” he said on a talk show programme on Astro Awani last night.

Suhaimi said water treatment plants that are forced to shut down due to odour pollution would resume operations to process the water to the users only after recording a 0 TON reading.

Meanwhile, Suhaimi said that there that the demand on water supply in the Klang valley would increase in the next 30 to 50 years.

“If the demand is high, then we might have to look into treating raw water supply from the sea like Singapore is doing.

“Treated sewage water can also be used but only for industrial purposes only, not for drinking,” he added.
