PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry has reported 851 Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 658 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 56,969. At a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 851 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 68,020.

Meanwhile, the two deaths bring the toll to 365. The two deceased were Sabahan men aged 63 and 84 with pre-existing health conditions. They both passed away at Hospital Queen Elizabeth. There are 10,686 active cases currently, with 122 receiving intensive care, of which 47 require respiratory assistance. Of the 851 new cases today, four involved individuals who had recently arrived in the country.

The Klang Valley reported 334 cases today with Selangor notching the highest number of infections (249), followed by Sabah (229) and Johor (102). Kuala Lumpur reported 85 cases, including the four imported cases, while Negeri Sembilan and Penang recorded 62 and 60 cases, respectively. There were 26 cases in Kedah, 34 in Perak, two in Kelantan and one each in Pahang and Melaka. Perlis, Terengganu, Sarawak, Labuan and Putrajaya did not report any new infections. Only 17 cases came from prisons and temporary detention centres, namely the Tembok, Matambai and PTS Sibuga clusters.
