Real Madrid have learned that Matthijs de Ligt's contract with Juventus carried a buyout clause.
And Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports Real are prepared to pay the €150m needed to trigger the option.
However, Real must wait another 18 months for the clause to come into action.
From July 2022, De Ligt's deal will carry a €150m buyout clause, which will run to the conclusion of his contract in 2024.
"If at 17 he was already captain of Ajax. Ajax, you understand?" his agent Mino Raiola told Tuttosport this week. "Bayern Munich and Barcelona were after him, but we thought Juventus was the ideal club for him. Today I can say that that choice was the right one."
