Scrap this competency test, urges LDP

Kota Kinabalu: The government has been urged to reconsider doing away with the written competency test to renew licence for existing pipelayers and pipefitters as it was tantamount to denying the decades of experience they have accumulated over the years, particularly for those without high level of education.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Central Youth Movement leader Sim Fui said the new policy imposed on contractors by the Sabah Water Department for the past two years have put an end to the livelihoods of qualified pipelayers and pipefitters because the examination was an obstacle to them.

He stressed that the written test was not an effective measure to elevate the standard of contractors.
