Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher says the players can be pleased with their 0-0 draw against Manchester City.
United had to settle for a point against Pep Guardiola's side, but Fletcher was encouraged by the team's overall performance, following a difficult week, in which they exited the Champions League due to defeat at RB Leipzig.
“I think everybody [played well]. I thought there were a lot of good performances," said the ex-Red. “Wan-Bissaka's defending one-v-one versus Sterling was very good. They did get in a few times down that left-hand side, but his defending was good one-v-one.
“Harry Maguire's had a fantastic block. We talk about scoring goals, but that's a match-winning block [to deny Kevin De Bruyne] he had. The midfielders were good too. To a man, everybody did their job and put a shift in for the team."
Fletcher also felt that Marcus Rashford was an unsung hero during the game, and could have been found more regularly by his colleagues.
“I liked Marcus Rashford's movement. He was threatening in behind a lot more, like we asked for at half-time, it's just a shame his team-mates weren't brave enough to try it [the difficult passes].
“Listen, sometimes you've got to try it. It's not going to come off all the time, but it's amazing what a long ball in behind, or a run can do. It can create space in front and also, if you get in, it can be devastating. But I was very impressed with Marcus Rashford doing that today. Hopefully it's something that can pay off in future."
