Kota Kinabalu: Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang (pic) urged  the State Government to increase allocations to assist non-Islamic schools and religious institutions in Sabah.

She urged the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government to emulate the previous Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Government which increased the allocations from RM11 million in 2018, to RM32 million in 2018, RM35 million in 2019 and RM43 million in 2020.

Jannie, who was previously a member of the committee which oversees such allocations, said there is a need for the Government to match the commitment displayed by former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal towards non-Islamic institutions.

“Apart from the generous increment in the allocation, Shafie also approved applications for support from a number of churches and mission schools, including RM1 million to St Theresa Church, Tambunan” Jannie added.
