Kota Kinabalu: Two Philippine Navy vessels have been deployed to the Municipality of Turtle Islands (Taganak) in Tawi-Tawi to further tighten border monitoring activities.

The vessels arrived on Tuesday and were anchored in front of the tiny island municipality to closely monitor any movements at the border.

The municipality is less than an hour of boat ride to Sandakan.

Mayor Faizal Jamalul (pic) said the presence of the vessels will send a clear message to people from the neighbouring border, especially undocumented Filipinos, not to return home via the “back door” route.
