‘Lok Kawi zoo’ lacking badly

PENAMPANG: There is need for the State Government to address various issues at the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, here, also popularly known as the “Lok Kawi zoo” 

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin (pic) said these ranged from infrastructure upgrades to shortage of staff. 

“There are 14 elephants being taken care of by only six staff. According to The Malaysian Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria (Mazpa), each elephant needs to be taken care of by at least two staff,” he said in a statement, Friday.

As for the park’s infrastructure, Jafry said the aviary, reptile house and clinic needs immediate upgrade and maintenance.
