AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini says the club wanted to sign Fikayo Tomori last summer.

Maldini confirmed Milan are working on the final details to bring the Chelsea defender to San Siro.

Tomori is expected to join on a six-month loan with Milan retaining an option to make the deal permanent.

"We wanted Fikayo Tomori also last summer," Maldini told Sky Italia.

"He's always been one of our targets. He's perfect for our squad - we're working on the last details."

Tomori has been restricted to just four appearances for Chelsea this season.
