Atletico Madrid have sounded out coach Diego Simeone about new contract talks.
AS says Atletico GM Miguel Ángel Gil Marín contacted Simeone in recent days to inform him of their intentions to extend his deal to 2024.
Atleti's board made the decision in the wake of Simeone's comments after their shock Copa del Rey defeat to little Cornella. In the aftermath, the Argentine expressed doubts about whether the board would want him to carry on.
However, with Gil Marin making clear to the coach about their plans, there's a confidence that negotiations over this new extension will run smoothly.
In principle, Simeone will continue with all his current coaching staff, with Profe Ortega as his right hand, Nelson Vivas as assistant and Hernán Bonvicini as third. However, an addition could be made following Mono Burgos' departure last summer.
