Kota Kinabalu: Kindergarten children as far as the remote sub-district of Paitan, located between Pitas and Beluran, will be getting free milk powder when they get back to school this year.

Making this possible is the Society of Hope Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, which initiated the Project Hope Milk Fund before last Christmas to raise funds for the purchase of powdered milk for hardcore poor children from urban areas, children in rural communities and those from the B40 Category as listed under the Department of Social Welfare.

“It was a privilege engaging with Sister Dorothy Laudi of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (FSIC).

She runs 13 kindergartens in Paitan, where access involves hours of travel on unsealed roads and boat-rides through crocodile-infested waters at a particular stretch of the Kinabatangan River.
