KINABATANGAN: A total of eight families involving 28 residents evacuated to the community hall in Kg Pangkalan, Bukit Garam, here, when their houses were inundated with floodwaters from Kuamut and Pinangoh rivers.

Kinabatangan Zone Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) Chief, Captain Ahmad Roslan Mohd Kamel, said despite the good weather on Sunday, the flood situation in Kinabatangan is believed to be caused by the overflow of Kuamut and Pinangoh rivers which entered Kinabatangan River.

“APM together with the Fire and Rescue Department had monitored the situation starting Jan 23 (Saturday) and the situation showed a sharp increase in water level to more than 9.3m at the warning level.

“This situation also affected the residents who built their houses at the height of only three to four feet from ground level.
