Covid-19: Four deaths nationwide, record-3,309 cases, 409 in Sabah

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported a record-high 3,309 Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,469 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 110,584.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 141,533.

There are 30,390 active cases with 190 patients receiving intensive care, of which

83 require respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the four deaths bring the number of fatalities to 559.

The four deaths all involved Malaysians – two men from Selangor, as well as one woman and one man, both from Perak.

They were aged between 52 and 69. Three of them suffered from chronic illnesses.

Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases with 1,007 infections, followed by Johor with 442 and Sabah with 409.

Noor Hisham said 825 of the cases in Selangor came from active close-contact screenings being carried out on the field and existing clusters.

Meanwhile, on cases in the other states, Noor Hisham said Kuala Lumpur reported 326 cases in the last 24 hours, while Penang reported 317 and Perak reported 241.

Meanwhile, Sarawak reported 146 cases followed by Pahang (96), Kelantan (86), Negeri Sembilan (85), Kedah (62), Putrajaya (36), Melaka (21), Terengganu (20) and Labuan (15). Perlis is the only state with no new infections.

Some 439 cases today were related to prison and immigration depot clusters, namely the Tembok Choh (162), Jalan Harapan prison (192), Tembok Mempaga (70), Tembok Gajah (7), Pagar Siput (3), Telok Mas (3) and Seberang Perai prison (2) clusters.

There were six imported cases reported.

The health ministry reported 11 new clusters today affecting Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Putrajaya.

These are the Jalan Manan, Persiaran Kuala, Udarama, Iris, Jalan Kiara, Dialisis Batu, Bukit Sekubong, Kampung Badak, Taman Kesedar, Dialisis Putra, and Permint Harmoni clusters.

Cases from the Jalan Manan cluster involving Klang in Selangor were detected today at targeted workplace screenings at a factory.

A total of 311 individuals were screened, of whom 83 were found positive.

Meanwhile, the cases for the Persiaran Kuala cluster involving Petaling, Klang and Sabak Bernam in Selangor were first reported on Dec 30 after targeted screenings at a factory.

A total of 2,020 individuals have been screened so far, of whom 44 tested positive.

On the Udarama cluster, Noor Hisham said the positive cases were detected today after screenings involving a security guard company.

The cluster, which involves Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur reported a total of 21 positive cases from screenings involving 134 individuals.

On the Iris cluster, also from Lembah Pantai, Noor Hisham said the index case was detected after the patient went for individual screenings. The cluster involves the Iris Apartment at Taman Desa.

A total of 414 people were screened with 11 positive cases.

Noor Hisham added that the Jalan Kiara cluster from Kepong and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur was identified yesterday after individuals tested positive following targeted screenings at a supermarket in Mont Kiara.

A total of 85 people were screened from the cluster, of whom 22 were found positive.

The Dialisis Batu cluster from Titiwangsa, Cheras and Kepong in Kuala Lumpur was detected after an individual was found positive on Jan 5 following individual symptomatic screenings. The cluster involves a dialysis centre at the IKS industrial park in Batu Caves.

A total of 140 individuals were screened, of whom six were found to be positive.

Meanwhile, the index case for the Bukit Sekubong cluster from Bintulu, Sarawak tested positive on Jan 10 after showing symptoms.

A total of 32 individuals were screened with 21 of them testing positive.

On the Kampung Badak cluster from Bachok and Kota Bharu in Kelantan and Hulu Langat in Selangor, Noor Hisham said the first case was detected today after an individual with travel history to Selangor tested positive through symptomatic individual screenings.

The cluster has a total of 39 positive cases from screenings involving 170 close-contacts.

The Taman Kesedar cluster involving Gua Musang, Kelantan was first detected on Jan 10 when an individual with travel history to Kuala Lumpur tested positive after developing symptoms.

There were 157 people who were screened, of whom 14 tested positive.

The index case from the Dialisis Putra cluster involving a dialysis centre in Presint 9, Putrajaya, was detected on Jan 9 after the patient went for individual screenings.

As of today, 25 individuals were screened, of whom 10 were found positive.

The Permint Harmoni cluster from Kuala Terengganu was first detected when a Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) patient tested positive for Covid-19 on Jan 7.

A total of 52 individuals were screened so far, of whom eight tested positive.
