PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 1,741 Covid-19 cases and 7 deaths in the past 24 hours. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,010 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 98,228. In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 120,818.

There are 22,089 active cases with 122 patients being treated in intensive care and 53 requiring respiratory assistance. Meanwhile, the 7 deaths means the death toll is now 501. The Malaysians who died were aged between 45 and 83, with most of them suffering from medical conditions, such as diabetes, and high blood pressure.

One of them did not have a history of medical conditions. Of the new infections today, eight were imported cases while the remaining 1,733 were local transmissions. Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases with 673, of which 541 were from new and existing clusters as well as close contact tracing and other Covid-19 screenings. The other states that reported triple-digit infections were Sabah (303) and Johor (295). Prison and detention centre clusters only had 32 cases today, most of which came from the Telok Mas cluster, which had 10 cases.
