Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists he wanted to progress in this season's FA Cup.
The holders were dumped out at the fourth round stage by Southampton on Saturday at St Mary's.
Arteta says he was happy with the energy of his players, but the manner of Saints' winner, via Gabriel, disappointed the manager.
The Spaniard also defended his line-up, insisting he selected a team expecting to win.
