Liverpool have tabled a pre-contract offer to Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, it has been claimed.

Off contract in June, Alaba has repeatedly stated his preference to stay at the Allianz Arena, but negotiations over a new deal reached an impasse earlier this season.

And the German giants withdrew their offer of a new five-year contract back in November, opening the door to a move away from Bayern.

Real Madrid and Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old, who is free to speak with prospective new clubs from this month.

According to Italian journalist Romero Agresti, Liverpool have offered Alaba a contract worth £9million-a-year for him to join as a free agent in the summer.

That would place him immediately as one of the best paid players at Liverpool on £175,000-a-week.

Only Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk reportedly earn more, according to Spotrac.
