Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Law Society (SLS) on Friday asked why there was no justification as to why the emergency was declared until Aug 1 this year.SLS President, Roger Chin (pic), said this is especially so when the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister and also co-chair of the Special Committee on Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply, Khairy Jamaluddin, had informed the public that Malaysia would receive the first delivery of vaccines before end February. “SLS further noted that the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021 (the Ordinance) does not provide for the end date but only the commencement date.

“An emergency should only last as long as is absolutely necessary and no longer,” he said in a statement Friday, commenting on recent news that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) had, on the advice of the Prime Minister, agreed to declare a state of emergency in Malaysia on Jan 12.
