Slask Wroclaw signing Lukasz Bejger has explained his decision to leave Manchester United.

The promising, versatile defender left United after a two-and-a-half year stay last week to return to his native Poland and signed for Slask Wroclaw.

Bejger had joined the club academy in 2018, amid competition from Manchester City, from Lech Poznan and he remained a regular in the youth sides, making a combined 29 appearances at Under-18 and Under-23 level and starting all five FA Youth Cup games in last year's run to the semi-finals.

However, with only three starts in the U23s this season and his contract set to expire in the summer, the 19-year-old decided to return to his homeland to continue his development, as he told Wroclaw's website: "I want to gain experience in senior football and constantly improve my skills.

"For a long time I have been in contact with the sports director Dariusz Sztylka, I also talked to coach Vitezslav Lavička and I was very keen to get to Wrocław.

“The club presented me with an interesting development plan, so I am convinced that I have made the right decision and will be making regular progress in Wrocław."
