Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino supports their move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
Cascarino reckons Rice could offer Chelsea added security in midfield.
Frank Lampard is thought to be keen on the West Ham player.
But the Blues gaffer was reportedly unable to make a move after the club spent £200million in the summer.
It is thought Chelsea will need to stump up a sizeable bid to buy Rice who is valued around £80million.
Cascarino told TalkSport: “Declan Rice can protect people.
“I learnt this early on in my career, one of the biggest skills you can have is do the simple things really well and if you can, you'll be one hell of a player."
