Wales coach Ryan Giggs has had his say on the debate around Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Giggs admits that the pressure is firmly on Van de Beek to ensure he makes manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reconsider whether he deserves a run in the starting XI.

“The problem he's got, he's in the same position as Fernandes, that's his favoured position," Giggs told Stadium Astro.

“Of course he can play off the right, he's played a little bit deeper but ideally that's his best position.

“I thought he did OK, nothing special, but it's hard coming into a game.

“You see how hard it is when you're not playing regularly to come into a big game like that, it's not easy.

“He knows that the pressure is on him. Eyes are on him, which you should expect when you're at a team like United, but I think he'll be OK in the long run.

“When you look at the bench at United over the last two or three months, it looks really strong. You look at the impact the bench has had and I think that's a good sign.

“When you have good players playing well and then you have good players on the bench as well who will come off the bench and make an impact.

“And the games will come thick and fast soon. There's a lot of games this season squeezed into a short space of time, so you'll need the squad and the players have to be ready to, when they're called upon, make an impact."
