1,765 victims evacuated

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 1,765 people from 567 families in four districts are now housed at 10 temporary relief centres (PPS) following floods due to heavy rains since Sunday.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, in a statement, said 976 victims from 300 families in Kudat took refuge at three PPS which were opened Monday, as of Tuesday at 4pm.

The PPS were at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tun Dato Hj Mustapha (90 people from 14 families), Rest House Lama Karakit (15 people from three families) and SK Sikuati (871 people from 283 families).

In Kota Marudu, 710 people from 246 families were housed at Dewan Kampung Asin-Asin; SK Taritipan; SK Advent Peace; and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tandek.

In Pintas district, currently, 36 victims from nine families were housed at Dewan Kampung Kusilad PPS while 19 people from three families were staying at SK Pekan II PPS.

The secretariat also informed that a PPS was opened in Beaufort, namely Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun Banir Hall involving 24 victims from nine families.

So far, 90 villages in five districts in Sabah, namely Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Tongod and Beaufort were  affected by the floods, but no flood victims had been evacuated in Tongod.
