Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce insists they're on the right track going into 2021.

For Bruce, 2020 never saw Newcastle drop anywhere near the bottom three and they ended the year with 19 points sitting eight clear of the relegation zone.

When asked how he would reflect on the year and his remit for 2021, Bruce told Chronicle Live: "If you're in the bottom half of the Premier League, then you're going to have ups and downs.

"I said when I walked through the door, our aim is can we try to nudge towards getting in the top half of the league?

"We were three places off last season; as we sit at the moment, we're two or three places off it, so we've got to keep striving towards that."

Bruce also remarked: "The one thing that makes this cub unique and what makes it a really big club is he amount of supporters we have, and St James' Park becomes a different animal to what it is at the moment.

"We've suffered a little bit from that because of our wonderful and truly loyal support.

"We've been without them – a full stadium here tonight, for example, would have, I'm sure, enjoyed what their team has given them tonight."
