Former Manchester United youth coach Lee Waddington has defended the club for letting Dwight McNeil leave for Burnley.
The Rochdale-born winger started his career in United's youth ranks but was released in 2014. Upon his departure he joined Burnley, where he came under Lee's tutelage, and he has since gone on to become a Premier League regular and yet another member of England's highly talented crop of young attackers.
"But did United drop the ball?" he told the Manchester Evening News. "United are a massive club and if you look at their success in developing young talent, they've had a what? A youth team player in their first team squad since what? 1938? Every game, never missed. Phenomenal.
"So no, my opinion United don't drop the ball really. United for me are still the power house of the world, not just English but world player development and do I feel honoured that I spent five-years there? Yeah. Too true I do."
