Man charged with cheating another man of RM2,410

Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old man was charged with cheating another man amounting to RM2,410.

Mohd Rizuan Mohd Farid Wong pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to the charge against him on Thursday.

Rizuan is accused of cheating one Harry Madhavan A/L David Madhavan, 59, by deceiving the latter that Rizuan can make a profitable investment which caused Harry to bank in the money into Rizuan’s bank account.

The crime allegedly took place at the Oath Commissioner office in Sedco Shoplot in Donggongon Newtownship, Penampang, between Nov 28, 2019 and June 14, 2020.

The offence, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years, and whipping, and also liable to a fine, on conviction.

The court set March 4 this year for case management and released Rizuan on bail of RM1,000 (fixed deposit/account saving without card) and his father as surety.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit appeared for the prosecution while Rizuan was not represented.
