West Ham United boss David Moyes says he did not want to sign a striker just to make people happy.
The Hammers manager knows his side needs more fire power in the coming months.
But he may have preferred to wait until the summer window, when more players are available for lower prices.
West Ham sold attacker Sebastian Haller to Ajax, but did not sign a replacement.
They instead signed Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United.
"We were looking and we had money to spend," said Moyes, per BBC Sport.
"But we are trying not to go down the same path as before. I am not going to sign players who have come in to appease people."
"When the club spent £200m, people said it was great and we were going places - it didn't work out that well," he added.
"We do want to add to what we have and we tried for a striker, but the players we wanted weren't available."
