Southampton failed with a double raid on Liverpool yesterday, it has been revealed.
While successful with a late loan agreement for Takumi Minamino, Saints were knocked back in an attempt to also take Neco Williams in a similar arrangement.
Sky Sports says Saints wanted to sign the Wales international to the end of the season.
But Liverpool refused to do business, as they view Williams as the No1 backup for first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
A deal for Minamino, meanwhile, was ushered through in the final minutes of last night's deadline rush.
