Kota Kinabalu: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) leaders urged the Federal Government to systemise the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Chinese New Year celebration and future festivities. Its President and Tuaran Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Wilfred Tangau, Deputy President and Senator, Datuk Donald Mojuntin, and Vice President and Kadamaian Assemblyman, Datuk Ewon Benedick, in a joint statement Sunday said the Government’s latest policy on SOP for Chinese New Year celebration is a black-and-white contrast to the policy on SOPs for the economic sector where the former discourages the unification of family gatherings and devotees at temples while the latter promotes the assembly of crowds at a night market.
