Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old jobless man was charged with having 51gm of cannabis. However, no plea was recorded from Choy Weng Hong after the charge was read to him before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus. Choy is accused of having the drug at 4.50pm on Feb 5 this year inside a car parked in basketball court in Kepayan Ridge flat, here.
The offence, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act, provides for a jail of between five years and life imprisonment, and whipping at least 10 strokes, on conviction. The court set March 17 for mention and ordered Choy to be remanded further pending the date. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mas Izzaty Lokman appeared for the prosecution.
In another court, a 26-year-old man claimed trial to having 31.93gm of syabu. Makin Husni made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, on Friday. He allegedly had the drug at 6.10pm on Aug 6, 2020 at the roundabout in Taman Rimba, Bandar Sierra Boulevard 1, Manggatal. The court fixed July 8 and 9 this year for hearing the case. No bail was offered to Makin.
