Manchester United star Marcus Rashford had some sympathy for Southampton player Alex Jankewitz.
The youngster was making his Premier League debut at Old Trafford, but was sent off after two minutes for a nasty tackle on Scott McTominay.
While Rashford felt it was a clear red card, he did not think the Swiss youth star wanted to hurt McTominay.
"I think he's quite unlucky," said Rashford to BT Sport.
"I don't think he's meant it in a nasty way, but he's just a little bit late and Scott's felt the consequences of that.
"I think it was a red card but unfortunate for the young player."
He added: "It's always good to score lots of goals and it's three points that we needed. We've dropped some points in the last few games and we needed to get back to winning ways and today was a brilliant opportunity to do that.
"It was just to be as simple as possible, keep moving. It's easy to take your foot off the gas and just keep possession, but we wanted to go out in the second half and score more goals and the lads did that.
"The first half really set the tone for us. From there when we came in for half-time it was about keeping the right mentality and a positive attitude and going to finish the game and scoring more goals."
